Big3 Basketball Week 7 Preview, Scores, and Standings

Big3 Basketball Lexington KY

The race to the Big3 Basketball playoffs will be in full force this Sunday at the Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY. With Trilogy and the 3 Headed Monsters already clinching a playoff berth, the other six teams are competing for the last two spots. As the season winds down, the play has been a lot more intense as some players are starting to find their groove. Last week, the Big3 games had a few surprises and this week should be no different. Power can clinch a playoff berth with a win, while the Ghost Ballers are hanging on to the final spot for dear life. 3’s Company and the Killer 3’s are knocking on their door and will meet today on the court. The team that wins will make the playoff race tight going into the last regular season game next week.

Big 3 Basketball Week 7 Preview

3 Headed Monsters vs. Ball Hogs

Since all of the players in Big3 Basketball are competitors, I don’t see the 3 Headed Monsters laying down this week. They could if they wanted to though. Gary Payton has his team in the playoffs and they could some new things for this week. Rashard Lewis has been the Big3 Basketball points leader all season, so obviously a big game is expected out of him. Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf has shown that age really doesn’t matter and has been solid from the outside while Kwame Brown has been dominating inside the paint. The Ball Hogs haven’t played well for most of the regular season. Derrick Byars and Xavier Silas are good players, but neither one has the ability to close out a game. Ball Hogs captain Brian Scalabrine and co-captain Josh Childress has been almost non-existent this season. The 3 Headed Monsters are just too strong all around. Look for the game to be close as Lewis and Abdul-Rauf gets more rest, but the Ball Hogs seem to not stand a chance. My prediction, 3 Headed Monsters 51, Ball Hogs 39.

3’s Company vs. Killer 3’s

3’s Company is coming off a big and exciting win last week over Power in extended play. With that said, the Killer 3’s are coming off of a win of their own and have been playing solid the last several weeks. DerMarr Johnson will most likely coach 3’s Company again in Allen Iverson’s absence. Regardless, he has to improve upon his 0-8 performance on 3 pointers last week. Andre Owens will be relied on heavily again if 3’s Company is going to pull out a win. Al Thornton will have to step up again as well. The Killer 3’s have three solid starters taking the court. Stephen Jackson is the second best leading scorer in Big3 Basketball. Reggie Evans dominates the boards and Chauncey Billups can hit from anywhere when he’s hot. Look for a fast paced start and an exciting finish between these two teams. My prediction, Killer 3’s 50, 3’s Company 47.

Power vs. Trilogy

This is an important game for Power. A win will punch their ticket to the playoffs. The problem is, Trilogy is the best overall team in Big3 Basketball. Al Harrington and Rashad McCants can score a lot of points for Trilogy. McCants has been great from the outside while Harrington scores most of his points inside the paint. Trilogy also has one of the most efficient shooters in the Big3 in James White. They are the big 3 within the Big3 and a good balance on offense and defense is why they dominate. Their strategy is business as usual since it’s got them to 6-0 for the season. The Power has three good players of their own, buy they need to be more consistent. Cuttino Mobley is one of the best scorers in the Big3 and he will keep Power in the game.  Jerome Williams played only 1 minute of last week’s game and his status isn’t known against Trilogy. Williams leads Power in rebounds and is a huge force underneath.  Rasual Butler, DeShawn Stevenson, and Kendall Gill add a lot of depth to this Power roster. All three guys play very well inside. Power will have to play their best ball to hang with Big3 Basketball’s top team. They can if they can stay consistent. It’s doubtful that they can though. My Prediction, Trilogy 51, Power 47.

Ghost Ballers vs. Tri-State

It seems that Tri-State are just playing for pride, but they still are in the playoff race. For how long will be determined against the Ghost Ballers. Tri-State isn’t flashy on the court, but they have three solid guys that are working well together. They just have to play better offensively. Co-captian, Bonzi Wells, is the back-bone of the offense and has been getting quicker on the court. Lee Nailon has been a solid shooter and Lou Amundson takes smart shots. Amundson along with Mike James has helped Tri-State improve on defense. The Ghost Ballers have been hit or miss lately. Mike Bibby has exceptional ball control, but hasn’t been consistent on making shots. The same goes for Ricky Davis and Ivan Johnson. Bibby is the league’s assist leader and will find them on the court, but they have to finish. All three guys are capable of scoring in the double-digits and will need to do so. Tri-State has struggled all year, but I’m putting the Ghost Ballers on upset alert. My prediction, Tri-State 50, Ghost Ballers 45.

Tip-off for this week’s Big3 Basketball games is set for 2pm and the Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY. They love their basketball in the Bluegrass State so the arena should be rocking.
